Welcome to February…aka, I Love to Read Month. This month highlights all the benefits and joys that reading brings each day. Your brain is always thirsting for knowledge and reading is its fuel. It strengthens your brain and increases vocabulary and comprehension skills. It reduces stress, lowers anxiety, improves memory, focus, imagination, creativity, and so much more.
This month we have a list of fun activities to celebrate and recognize the importance of reading. The events planned this month that the school will be partaking in are:
1cup=1book: Speed Stacker Challenge
World Read Aloud Day: Teacher switch
Bulletin Board Contest: Guess the book
Celebrate your Love of Reading: Wear Red, white, or pink!
Book Character Day: Dress up as your favorite book character
Hats off to Reading: Wear your favorite hat and read.
Reading is a Bright Idea: Sunglasses or a Bright Shirt
Be a Good Sport and Read: Wear your favorite Jersey and read.
PJ Day/Lights Out: Cuddle up with your favorite Book and Read in Gym with flashlight.
We also have a month reading challenge for each grade level.
Kindergarten to Grade 2- read thirty-one books.
Grade 3 to 8: A to Z challenge: Read 26 books. First letter of last name documented and it can be any book at any level.
Completed sheets are to be handed into the office and participant’s name will be entered in for a draw at the end of the month. Due date for entries – Feb 27th.
The Jr. High Curling team of Jayden, Dylan, Shya, and Cedar along with their coach, Mrs. Ryznar, were off to the Erickson Curling Rink to participate in the RRSD Divisional Bonspiel on Monday,
Feb 10th. They played with integrity and good sportsmanship. However, they unfortunately came back early still with smiles on their faces and the appreciation of the game.
The 100th day of school was on Feb.21st. Classes celebrated the day by incorporating the 100th day theme into each subject. Games and lots of counting was being heard throughout the school.
