Jumping into January

Jumping Into January

As we finished filling the pages of 2024 with all our wonderful December memories, we closed it, shelved it and pulled another journal off the shelf to begin documenting new adventures, goals, and moments to come for 2025.

Students and staff entered through the doors on January 6th with a refreshed energy that was a buzz in our one hallway school. It is always nice to see everyone and catch up.

Colder temperatures along with more snow have graced us outside during recesses and we have had a few snow days along with indoor recesses.

The yearbook club has been back in the swing of things filling the pages with a lot of great photos and information on the events that were covered from September to December. This year we split the club into two groups which seem to be flowing perfectly. They have a bit of editing to do on the pages they have already created from Sept to Dec.

Grades 5 to 8 had the use of the snowshoes till the end of this month.  They have been out a few times, but the colder conditions have interrupted the opportunity to go more often.  When they did go out, they hit the trails in and around our little community.  Fresh snow, fresh air, exercise, it is truly a great combination. The cross country ski’s came on the last Wednesday of January.  Hopefully Mother Nature will make it nice for some upcoming ski days.

On, January 21st, the grade 7/8 class ventured into Brandon to take part in the Ag Day as part of the Agriculture in the Classroom.

They spent the day touring the booths and learning so much about how agriculture impacts our communities.  Then enroute home they stopped in at the Erickson Food Bank to learn about how the food bank helps and is a welcoming service that is offered in the town  of Erickson and surrounding communities. There is such a need right now. The students were proud, on behalf of Onanole Elementary School, to present them with a cheque from the Kids Can Shop Fundraiser.

Onanole School would like to congratulate Cedar Smid for placing first in Zones for her 2024 Intermediate Poem, and to Meadow Smid for placing first in Zones for her 2024 Junior Poem.  These two talented young lady’s poems are now being sent to the District Level to be judged.

On January, 28th, students in Grades 1 to 8 enjoyed the Virtual Wetland Field trip to Oak Hammock Marsh.  The presenter we had, Emily, was very informative and kept her young audience engaged in the discussion about our wetlands, what they provide, and how important they are to the ecosystem.

February is only a couple of days away and we are getting pretty excited for I Love to Read Month.
